The Eureka homecoming on Friday, September 13th, was a memorable event despite the challenges posed by the weather. The day began with grades 7-11 busy building their floats, but a lightning delay briefly interrupted their work. Although the rain set in around 10:15 AM, the students persisted and managed to finish their floats, although the parade had to be canceled due to the continued downpour.
The pep rally was moved up to 1:15 PM and turned out to be a highlight of the day. The student council organized an energetic pep rally, starting with a lively performance by the marching band around the gym. The cheer contests and games were a hit with the crowd, including an exciting obstacle course featuring teams from grades 7-12 and a creative toilet paper wrap competition, which the 10th grade won.
Following the games, King Tyler Bluhm and Queen Makaylah Jones addressed the crowd, and the school band played the school song. The student council also announced the dress-up awards for the week, and Mr. Weismantel revealed the float competition results. The 8th graders clinched 1st place with their "Pop Rocks" theme, while the Juniors and Freshmen tied for 2nd place with their Skittles and Sour Punch Kids themes, respectively.
Due to the rain, the Punt, Pass, & Kick event was rescheduled to Thursday, September 19th at 1:30 PM. In sports, the Thunder faced Leola-Frederick on Friday night, with the Middle School team securing a win against the Titans, although the varsity team fell to Leola-Frederick.
Overall, despite the weather hurdles, the homecoming festivities provided a fun and spirited day for the Eureka community.
